But could you address why authors’ books with LGBTQ+ themes were not included? From what I understand, specific books were requested by the authors but were then not placed on the presale list.

I second Jarrett’s question. There were issues raised by authors that this statement doesn’t address. What happened with the pulled books? What LGBTQ+-themed titles will be sold at the fest?

There are a lot of questions this doesn’t answer. If the code of conduct doesn’t “impact or inform” the plum creek festival… can you outline how (since the institutions are connected)? Especially knowing that LGBTQ+ author’s books weren’t included, which is censorship.

Absolutely agree, Lily. This code of conduct is hateful, vile, and exclusionary. It affects the students, staff, and volunteers involved in the festival. And how could LGBTQ authors and readers possibly feel safe or valued coming to a campus that doesn't honor their humanity?

Well we know this statement isn’t accurate because you’re not selling authors’ LGBTQ books at this event. The policy is CLEARLY impacting which books are being sold.

“Host site” is an interesting word choice considering that Plum Creek was founded by CUNE’s dean of education in 1996 and relies on CUNE student volunteers for both the children and adult festivals. (Source for people not familiar: https://www.cunesower.com/the-history-of-the-plum-creek-childrens-literacy-festival/ …)
-
Added context: The executive director of Plum Creek is employed by CUNE to run the festival. You have to follow CUNE policies as a Concordia employee. That said, it’s totally possible the director doesn’t agree with CUNE’s policies.

I have attended Plum Creek for many years. Loved every chance to learn from so many amazing children's & YA authors/illustrators. PC & Concordia U must learn from this & be better. Or, I pray the children/teachers in NE will have another festival option to attend in the future
