Classical liberals want to produce more freedom and give it to everyone (unjustified lack of freedom = oppression). Progressive leftism seems to understand freedom as a limited resource, so it has to be redistributed (unjustified surplus of freedom = privilege). Discuss.

In related news: As many as 1 in 4 students in elite colleges classified as disabled (source wsj). Does maintaining freedom under conditions of competitive redistribution push millenials into declaring themselves as underprivileged?

(Personally, I don't think that freedom and privilege are unrelated, but neither are they zero-sum. Privileges that don't result from oppressing others should be extended to all, not abolished.)

Both are somewhat correct, structurally we have limited resources at any point and time, and the distribution of them is important. But we can also expand the top of the funnel and capture more energy in total to distribute.

I am not sure if freedom itself is a limited resource, even though inequality and productivity seem to have a complicated relationship, and productivity matters for the amount of resources that can be distributed.

classic liberals seem more like the anti intellectual property crowd, where IP is viewed as a non rivalrous good. intervention on behalf of one group pulls it down into a zero sum game, rather than a network effect where all who have access to it benefit all the rest as well

so called "Classical liberals" dont understand that liberalism is not a left wing philosophy and hasnt been for over 150 years. They dont understand why people were unstatisfied with enlightenment philosophy and moved on.
