Yes and no. The other data point not reported here is, how many times over the previous week the system determined “emergency braking was required” - ie, false positive rate. I suspect that rate is high, at least high enough passengers wouldn’t tolerate it.
That’s why I personally am skeptical about generalized autonomous driving in general. 100% safety in urban areas will probably mean a horrible passenger experience - coming to a screeching halt every time a radar reflection confuses the sensors.
100% is not realistic. This accident seems to have been triggered by a misclassification of "human pushing loaded bicycle at night straight over the highway" and a misconfiguration of the braking and so should have been prevented, but it may have happened to a human driver, too.
