Perceptual learning is first order modeling. Knowledge is second order modeling: learned from perceptual models. It is derived by inference and experiment over what we perceive. Jackson's "colorblind Mary" has 2nd order models of color vision without having a 1st order model.
Our normal perception is a form of dreaming, just one that is synched to sensory data. Technically, dreaming is largely perception without sensory constraints.

I agree. Colorblind Mary may have acquired her own 1st order models from her dreams.
