stupid thought about language use for discussing abstractions. it seems to me that gender politics has become so contentious that it's unhelpful to use "feminine" and "masculine" as category labels right now. how about "matter" and "pattern" instead?

admittedly a bit stupid. what's specifically wrong about it?

it is not stupid at all: you could argue that the pattern is the pater of the matter (giving it its structure), and the matter is the mater of the pattern (giving it its substrate), it is only wrong that gender is meaningless, as you can see here :)

that's the general idea :) gender is certainly not meaningless, just impossible to talk about meaingfully in the fog-of-culture-war at the moment. I'm just playing around with some linguistic sleight of hand to open up the space again, maybe.

I always forget that for some people, they have not per default given up on the zeitgeist. I thought it is historically obvious that disagreement with the majority is the the rule for every decent thinker, not the exception. :)
