Probably not all the way; infinities are infinitely expensive, and finite reversible universes need the equivalent of energy sources to run child universes, which limits nesting depth

Yes, irreversible universes could be set up to to run infinitely long computations, so a simple automaton can produce an arbitrarily large child universe.
