If that does not work, the AIs have to resort to sending von Neumann probes with the smallest, most robust evolution seeders possible, and we are back at the panspermium hypothesis :)

I could imagine that there are more robust and complex replicators than DNA. If not, that might again be the anthropic principle: If DNA-based panspermia is the maximal bandwidth of interstellar space, then it is hostile enough to limit wild growth of rogue AI.
