I just wanted to ask what lesson we may derive from the fact that more than 99% of all species that ever lived are now extinct

Evolution is an exquisitely beautiful chaotic process with lots of dead ends and failed experiments. What I find most wonderous is that the three of us are even here to be able to contemplate it all.

Evolution is a fascist slaughterhouse. Nothing is the universe has caused more suffering than evolution. Perhaps we can use AI to end it?

Your words imply a degree of intentionality: evolution is as indifferent to all life just as the sea is indifferent to me when I step from the shore.

Fascism is the only form of state level social organization that is fully aware of evolution, and embraces group selection as normative purpose. Evolution is racist, speciecist and genocidal: not intentionally, but via functional emergence.

Are you calling for more fascism here or am I misunderstanding? Intellectual games are fun, until they are not...

No, to the contrary, I just explain why I am not such a fan of evolution. (Not the theory, but the actual thing itself.)

thanks for clarifying - the real slaughterhouse is twitter, with its broken threads and chopped up representation of thought. Inhumane.

"Nothing is the universe has caused more suffering than evolution" < what is your definition of "suffering"? The buddhist traditions (the worlds leading suffering explorers) +- speak of 'maya' (illusion of space/time) as the root of suffering. Evolution is a temporal phenomenon

That may be a common mistranslation? Maya might mean “representation”, not “illusion”. Of course you’ll stop suffering when you detach your mind fully from your construct of the universe (and your evolutionarily programmed purposes), because you’ll stop regulating.

please clarify what you mean by "because you’ll stop regulating". Death? Letting go of all representations (letting go of temporality suffices, the rest falls with that) while still being alive is i suppose where things get interesting

If something regulates, it is no longer you. The personal identity construct separates from external (to that self) reward. Subjectively you enter Nirvana and cease, because your job is done. Objectively, you body may die or another self takes over, but it won’t concern you.
