Vinay Gupta's ironic deconstruction of enlightenment in the SSC comments is brilliant and he is my hero, even if his satirical impersonation of the enraged guru wannabe who has his serenity questioned is a bit mean to the real enlightenment salesmen

What do you mean by “enlightenment salesman”. I find it—I don’t know how to put it—very disturbing. Enlightenment can’t be sold. If it could be sold, wouldn’t someone have already sold it to us by now. Getting a glimpse of euphoria is easy though.

There is a whole enlightenment industry, because there are people that want to buy it, and in this context, it is an easily renewable but perishable resource.

I don’t think there is an “enlightenment industry”. Cults may be there that are monetising their follower count like the way twitter or Facebook monetises user count.

How would you characterize Deepak Chopra, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Rupert Spira etc.?

Never met any of them. I have done Sri Sri’s Sudarshana kriya recently under the guidance of
@mkoteshwar. Only thing I can say is that it’s a great system to follow for those who are so inclined. I myself was first trained in TM. The AoL course was Govt funded. TM was free.1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes
Art of Living is Sri Sri’s cult
