Two conflicting notions of learning. In science and engineering, the purpose of learning is generalization from past observations to future ones. Learning is stereotyping. In education, the purpose of learning is forming the mind of the student. Learning is indoctrination.

Sometimes adventure reveals that generalizations from past observations are overly broad, incorrect or narrow.

I realized that the main intention of my tweet was to highlight our unquestioning use of “stereotype” and “indoctrination” to condemn perfectly normal and unavoidable things whenever convinient.
