If you want to derive values from life itself, it gets ugly very fast, because evolution is indifferent to suffering. From an evolutionary perspective, it is often better to replace a population with offspring of a different one. Evolution is the most brutal fascism.

i enjoy playing with evolutionary algorithms way to much to deny such views (and enjoy your fascism analogy) ;-) Yet, my question was a different one - if we can make objective value statements about the optimal conditions for life on planet earth.
