They are conscious in their limit as designed by the nature. Have you ever noticed, ants leave their habitat and come out; well before potential earthquakes or heavy rain/flooding. Is that not consciousness?

No, it is just evidence that they have evolved or learned a response to environmental cues that predict that they should evacuate their underground lairs.

If you apply an anesthetic to the root of a tooth, does the tooth lose consciousness?

is an ant-hive, considered as aggregate, conscious?
-
It seems to be unlikely. Ant hives don't seem to live up to their potential in this regard. I expect that they are too slow and noisy to achieve the necessary degree of of coherence. And we also don't seem to observe very clever hive behavior. But who knows?

That is a rather clear description & definition. Good job, bookmarked.

imo consciousness is simply the ability of experiencing sensory input, no further reflection necessary. No non-biological machine, regardless how clever it's algorithms, has phenomenal experience (afawk). So yes, worms and ants qualify as low level conscious machines in my book

Agree with this completely. Dreaming may be the best indicator we have to measure consciousness, as the mind plays-out that high-level, inner sensory loop.
