Gödel Escher Bach laid the wrong foundations, A Computable Universe and related works that introduced constructionist physics to me came too late, Master and Margarita (which I read often) and all the books by Boris Vian, Lem and Robert Anton Wilson came always at the right time

Hofstadter derives computation from classical logic and mathematics, not constructionism. Also, he focuses on symbolic operations first.
