The problem with theories like mirror neurons or IIT is not that they are wrong, but that they are superstitious. Their proposed elements have no way in which they could actually produce the result they pretend to explain.
This is a thing that I don't understand. Either you care about the acclaim of your peers, in which case you try to play by the rules of the culture. Or you dismiss mortal human status games, in which case only your results matter and not their current reception.

Science is to academia like religion is to the church. One is per definition supremely noble, and the other is the hackjob that results from the actual incentives. But if you decide that you reject the social game, why continue to be outraged by it?
