isn't "the brain is a classical computer" the mother of all of these "pop science" over-simplifications? ;)

To be a computer means little more than the ability to move from state to state in a nonrandom fashion. Sometimes I get the impression that you oppose reductive thought because your religion is an essentialist version of the god of the gaps.

Maybe, though maybe the label is not as important as the symptom it is describing. As I understand as a non-expert, human behaviour regarding mobile and app resembles forms of addiction. On hype cycles - these occur in CS too. SOA. WS-*. Cloud. AI. Blockchain.

Oh, I did not mean to say that Facebook does not disrupt our attention with addictive stimulation! It is just that the stories that we tell about dopamine in that context might be only vaguely related to the functional mechanisms that are actually involved.

grateful to have found researcher interested in brains same way as me. I wonder whether you think the answer is basically Psi theory or not quite.
-
The Psi theory is largely a theory of motivation, and I still think that it is largely correct (but needs to be extended by secondary effects due to the cortically learned structure of the self). But my view on representation has changed during the last 10 years.

You never know what catches on. "Slow and fast brain (system one/system two)" had so much potential, yet the public still largely ignores it. Perhaps because we have not established a way to talk about sex differences with it?
