The worry about autonomous weapons is not much about lack of remorse. The main issue that they can often replace expensive snipers, infantry and sometimes artillery and missiles, and will be affordable even for non state actors, so there will be a lower threshold for violence

Infantry? Are you f'n high? We've spent billions trying to get automated cars with GPS to navigate streets designed to be used by vehicles and they are barely functional, some of the time. Killer robots have been "around the corner" for 30 years.

You want a credible threat, look at people applying machine learning to sentencing programs or medical practice decisions deciding who's worth care and who should go to prison.
