I understand shock and anguish of the parents, but I don't think it necessarily says very much about society, except that a single confused individual in a park was very worried about child neglect, and the police in the area had enough resources to check that everything was ok.

What should have been done instead? Child neglect happens, overeager bystanders happen, people unaware of autism or the difficulty of raising children happen, the police quickly understood.

I did not realize... are there countries and large communities without cops? How do they deal with violently antisocial behavior? Are you opposed to enforcing a state monopoly on violence? (I am just curious, because I know too few who are.)

Do you have a workable alternative in mind and a trajectory of getting there, or is that simply the implication of your value system?
