FaceID in the iPhone and the Touch Bar on the MacBook are two symptoms of the same disease. They replace something boring that works with something shiny that is compromised. We could call it the iOS7 syndrome.
Apple did not operate like this under Jobs. The Mac and the iPhone just worked, which is the whole point of design, and was the basis for their success. Apple has forgotten the basic idea of design. It is not necessary to deliver untested iterations.
