Yes, because it forces you to build higher level models. (And btw., appreciating your own insights generally improves if you know how you got them, and you therefore have a model of how much you can rely on them.)

Depends on how we define "appreciate" and "circumstances"; my own insights sometimes feel too obvious to be worth saying, whereas someone else's insights seem brilliant exactly because I *haven't* been as thoroughly immersed in the material that makes it feel boringly obvious.

Yes, "appreciate" also means "to comprehend in all its detail". Something that might seem like a groundbreaking insight from one perspective may be an minor nail holding two important planks together from another.
