Yes, I only refer to the mundane sense in which we are actually conscious, not to some mysterious quantum light phenomenon that connects our immortal soul with the mind-at-large of the cosmos :P

And what is the "mundane sense in which we are actually conscious"? I don't know what that means. (I don't know the other sense either.) My own definition of "conscious" is a scale of mapmaking of external reality internally, in different dimensions. Literally.

Oh, that is simple. The internet solves the binding problem, too. You just build ping ack cycles, on the level of cortical columns. Which is also why you observe large scale synchronized oscillation in the neicortex.

What is "conscious"? How might one pretend to be conscious yet not be?

Your brain is not conscious, you are. But you don't exist, you are a fiction created by your brain. Your entire experience is as virtual as the experience of any other fictional character, yet your brain simulates how you'd respond to that if you were real.

I'm not sure there is any real agreement on what the definition of "conscious" or "consciousness" means. Which is why I ask. :-)
