I don't see how someone can coherently hold these two views (yet ppl seem to): (1) When women are mocked/insulted online: a bad thing was done to them (2) When men are mocked/insulted online: "nothing bad" was done to them, it's not like they were fired, it's only words online

The self is not just identified with the fiction of the individual, but with the projection of all of one's purposes. It is quite easy to form an identity based on race or gender or culture. Or the service to the weltgeist.
