In short: drugs let us discover more of possible mind space and possible states, but I think it's a grave mistake to assume they reveal some ultimate truth (About the self, for example)..

If course. They put the nervous system in all sorts of possible configurations. Some of those have deleterious effects on people’s epistemology, but if one can avoid that, the experiment can contribute important insights. Such as integration of the self being a separate process.
