I often throw out a thought that just occurred to me and is at the current front of my understanding, in the (usually vain) hope that one or two people get something out of it or respond with a deeper insight. I hope that is not harmful.

I get more responses when I post something that seems boringly obvious, and most if there is a perceived appeal to values. I realize that twitter is mostly a medium for social alignment instead of original thought, but find that depressing.

value(insight) + value(social interaction) < value(attention) + value(lost status)

I suspect that 90% of my followers have put me on mute (not that I blame them), and 90% of the rest silently learn how not do twitter :)

I want to see more tweets like yours. I'm not interested in agreeing with everything you say. I'm interested in new perspectives and new abstractions.

Thank you, that means a lot to me! But I also realize that many decent people don't open twitter to enjoy superfluous challenges to their beliefs and weirdness :)

does this provide a tangible problem for you personally?

While a few people find it useful and interesting, the social cost makes it net negative, I suppose. (I have a high rate of follower attrition.)
