Hehe, I am talking about history in a purely physical/computational sense here, but I noticed that it is a funny and apt metaphor for organismic, biographical and societal history, too, when I wrote it.

Thought train: building structure requires changing bits in a reversible (history preserving) substrate. The accumulated history (garbage bits) that the structure needs to "forget" to maintain itself is entropy. Every stable dynamic system needs a negentropy gradient to feed on.
