In the long run, people will tend to adopt the beliefs and values they consider to be in their best interest, i.e. which help them to best navigate the universe around them. Free speech will speed up that convergence.

I'd like to believe that but i do not know why evolution should have a direction even if you accelarate it. To increase the frequency of Variation/Selektion/Retention is not necessaarily like fast forwarding.

I am not automatically assuming that everyone acting on their subjective best interest is the best solution, I don't know that.
