I find political discussions on Twitter to have net negative value (insight < attention cost), but I love many of the participants and often share their goals. Please advise!

In principle, I agree with you. My assumption is only true if you can cut off ideoliological positions. In this case, the intersection of the different perspectives is closest to the truth. (sometimes)

The best approximation of truth we can find is the set of theories that explain all observations. If multiple perspectives overlap over explanations that contradict the observable facts, they are still all wrong. But perspectives themselves are facts too and have to be explained.
