These ideas were surprisingly robust and integrating to the group itself, and the immune system of the host society reacted by literally burning the memetically infected group out with fire, like a zombie virus invasion.

Our currently dominant social reality is an extremely radical, violent and deadly cult as well, just one that scaled and prevailed. It is almost impossible to see how weird it is from the inside.
