The fundamental assumption of science is that the cosmos is understandable. The fundamental assumption of computing is that the cosmos is computable. The fundamental assumption of being fully human is that life has meaning.

Perhaps. The first is certainly untestable; the second is unprovable; the third...well, without such an illusion, we descent into nihilist madness. I prefer to be optimistic with regard to all three.

I might be completely wrong on all counts, but 1. I think the understandability of the cosmos is a (surprising!) conclusion, not a premise of science, 2. I think that the CTT is probably a physical law, but most CS people and physicists may differ. But we will find out soon!

3. I agree that its possible that modern homo sapiens might differ from other hominids precisely in its need for meaning, but nihilism is not just the result of absence of meaning, but a painful state caused by an unrequited need for meaning.
