A God is not a supernatural entity but the identification of a social superorganism from the perspective of the individual, which takes primacy over individual interests. The soul is the relation that binds the individual to the projected superorganism.
What if it is the other way around, and the aporia is caused by the void left by religion?

It is indeed a widespread idea. But existential anxiety is part of the human condition, regardless of the historical religion. Life and death don't make sense.

Why would they need to make sense? Our species was not born with a need for religious answers. Religion is an evolved technology that creates a need for meaning, and fills it with the identification with the superorganism.
