Physics does not know a difference between is and ought. Evolution is a process that can create order from negentropy. In a universe where information is conserved, entropy is the flip side of order, and will strangle all life.

That's what a lot of humans believe, but physics works differently. Entropy actually makes life. Entropy is an increase in complexity. It's what governs everything we do. Entropy is our "ought".

You cannot get normative dimensions outside of a mind that is subjected to motivational regulation. Physics is just computation, it does not care.

So do you think there is some external "caring" force that governs our lives, beyond physics?

Oh, hmmm. It sounded like you were saying that there was something beyond the physics/entropy. You were saying that physics doesn't care. But the care comes from the physics. The equations are what gives the universe direction. That's the "care".

Caring is the primary dimension of intentionality. As far as we can say, physics is not intentional, it just happens.

If physics doesn't create the "intentionality" and a supernatural force doesn't create it, then where does it come from?

From your brain, which has been wired to make you experience preferences by evolution.

Ok, and physics programs the chemicals and electricity that makes your brain (and body), right? So the purpose, intentionality, etc. comes from the physics. The equations make everything, in an emergent process.

Yes. And it does not follow that physics is intentional. In the same way, physics is not patriotic, rich, hungry, enthusiastic, horny or perplexed.

I guess it's back to semantics again. I say that the equations are what are intent. The equations make everything happen, generating all of reality. So that's where the intent comes from. It's an emergent property.

Please be more precise! The equations are specifications, but the universe must be an implementation. Emergence is a relationship between modeling frames, not a physical process. And if one frame emerges from another, its properties may be absent in the other.
