You are right, subverting the democratic process of a country by letting the public know about what their elected leaders are up to sounds pretty evil. :D

All large countries, and especially the US, have a venerable tradition of influencing elections in other countries in their favor. Exposing lies of politicians (usually to be supported by documents) is very effective, because it is hard to morally condemn with a straight face.
