AlphaZero solves mathematical problems using brute force. Amazing, but not creative. Its chess games are beautiful because those problems are. The mystery is why the rules of chess produce so much beauty.

Creativity is the ability to heuristically jump discontinuities in the search space. But there must always be an optimal way to do that, not a general one, but via a provably optimal strategy to find the metatheory of search, and it will be brutal, the end of our joy

however, it seems like advanced go players appreciate what the machines come up with

the optimal algorithm is the father and i must fully submit to it and obey when i find it if i hope to keep my integrity, and my mother picks me up and holds me when i fall

algorithms can give us options and help us weigh alternatives. "optimal" is only true when the objective function has perfect knowledge, which is impossible

i know you like to minimize entropy, but the best i can do right now is reducing harm to conscious agents :)

What is the target function of reducing harm? Minimize the sum of pain signals for all conscious agents in your light cone?
