No offense taken! Based on some people I consider to be knowledgeable, the leaks were correct, which is consistent with the reaction of the involved governments and Snowden himself. It might be an elaborate ruse, but I find it more plausible that detracting from them is a ruse!

I used to fear the masterminds of the deep state and their skills to pull off larger stunts like this, but in the last year, I lost all my respect for their abilities. The best explanation is that there is absolutely no hidden reservoir of people who know what they are doing.

Since I don't know any of the actors involved, I think that this is a possibility. I trust that if you had solid evidence you would not discuss the opinions you base on them with strangers on twitter :)

That would have to imply that there is a large set of tech we can plausibly infer, and Snowden is selectively disclosing the subset that is more haunting than effective. Taps at Google, BND tapping Germany for US, UK doing full take of undersea comms... is NOT what I would leak

The Russian population already knows that their state has no effective checks on surveillance. Germany is a vassal of the US, and it cannot be good if US and German population freak out about their comms being bugged.
