It is important to acknowledge that the current state of social media is *not* flawed, but actually close to optimal. These services are not optimising for the interest of "end users" (you), but for institutional powers that control them.

Maybe this is a more appropriate model (?): the systems are optimised so that the users are the product which is sold to the advertisers.

The business case of social media is the provision of an attack surface for the hacking attempts of corporate minds on bio minds. This business case is not the only driver of its design. For instance,

Twitter is serving some institutional goals, and it is serving its largely orthogonal business goals, and both don't prevent twitter from being highjacked by forces that intentionally and coincidentally work against the institutional goals.
