I found that the people with the strongest moral posturing are often also the most ruthless bullies. Is that because violence is seen as morally permissible against the political outgroup, or are sociopaths just more prone to use ideological powerplay for personal advancement?

It's not so simple. Voluntary social organizations are formed around a shared purpose, which will always require and justify corresponding ethics of individual behavior. Groups also have to defend against parasitic invaders that try to feed on them for their own purposes.

what's your point? most of the time lies have a purpose, yes.

If your moral laws have the form: if your social dynamics wish to achieve X, incentive behavior Y, why does that have to be a lie?

how do you call it, when it takes form of 'do Y at all times' with no mention of X whatsoever, making it look like Y itself is the purpose? isn't it why, when people suddenly don't do Y, you have to question their integrity, as in your original tweet

Yes, sometimes moral claims lack merit, but how can you conclude that therefore all morals are lies?

I can agree that somewhere out there a moral law exists that I did not consider before making my way-too-broad statement, if you want. In the same way I can imagine a teapot orbiting the sun now somewhere, after all they sometimes do silly things in space http://youtu.be/f-FxhCZold0

You are not thinking this through! All our hope that we can have benevolent mutual interaction with each other without a credible threat of force rests on our ability to infer moral laws.
