Stereotypes and your wife’s nationality are a poor substitute for empirical evidence. “Everybody knows” European unions are stronger than American unions...yet NYC Subway workers are better compensated and have easier work rules than European ones.https://twitter.com/pdberger/status/936260285509357570 …

The NYC subway seems to be a racket and unworthy of a metropolis in 2017. It fires its mechanics and cuts investments so it can pay its 2500 managers ~300K salaries. https://www.nytimes.com/2017/11/18/nyregion/new-york-subway-system-failure-delays.html …

The NYC subway does not know how to run trains on time, provide access with strollers and wheelchairs, or even air within temperatures and oxygen levels fit for human survival. Navigation in its claustrophobic, dirty, stinking dungeons is a disaster, it is loud and lacks seating.

IMHO New York should shut down its entire subway and buy a new one from China.

Spain, Italy & France are better models for the US than China. About as cheap as China, but they're first world countries.

Btw, I am not suggesting that China as a whole is currently a good model for US governance. There is no country with >200M inhabitants that offers better living conditions than the US. Smaller countries are easier to govern.
