That's total compensation, much of which is healthcare and pensions, salaries aren't that crazy. But yeah, the people in charge of the MTA have some fucked up priorities

They have exactly the right priorities regarding to their own interest, but it means that the system is set up in the wrong way. Unfortunately it is difficult to reform or start anew.
