Software engineering is any more not toxic than any other engineering. JS was forced on people due to a couple of accidents and should have been Lua. PHP is an abomination. But any language can be made useful.

Curiously strong typing is an inbuilt feature that allows novices to reflect on their understandable errors. It is this property (or rather its lack) that leads me to above stated conclusion.

Type errors have been very rare for me in py or js, but I lost a lot of time with hacking APIs and fn signatures in Java and C++ when types evolved. I suppose it depends on the task.
