Okay I may not agree with their politics but can we at least agree that strawmanning them is just nasty? Just because Buzzfeed covers grown men in diapers and people who identify as lanterns, you can't belittle anyone else by grouping them all together.https://twitter.com/wizetheproducer/status/930177017315774464 …

Why is it so hard to understand that although we may not take something to be true, someone's subjective reality is 100% true? Their feelings are exactly their feelings irrespective of how true the idea is that sources them. At least respect that.

While I agree with your general sentiment, I don't think that our self model is always good at capturing our experiences and feelings. And defective self models can be a big problem.

Ours or each others? You make a good point but I can't imagine we can't picture someone else's perception of an issue we feel strongly about, sounds animalistic.

Obviously, modeling others' experience is difficult. But correctly assessing our own experiences can be even harder, especially when they conflict with our self image, or they are outside of our attention.

I perfectly understand that. Do introspection and self-reflection not allow for some ability to "empathize" then (as opposed to being compassionate which I assume doesn't require either)? Empathy is not necessary for optimal human interaction though, is it? (Paul Bloom here)

In my experience, introspection and self reflection did not increase empathy, but compassion. Empathy increases through attention shift, perceptual learning and change in self construction.
