What if minds are not built around learning, but around meta learning (i.e. functional structures that figure out how to learn different types of domains efficiently), and evolution of minds is the (slow) search for efficient meta learning?
Seems pretty obvious. But "knowledge" might trigger the wrong metaphors. We don't learn knowledge items like a database, but we entrain generators to produce solutions as we need them.

I would say predictions more than solutions. The difference between us and the smallest shrew is the complexity of the predictions. Predictions are based upon knowledge in form of temporal series. You know.. reciting the alphabet in one direction is easy...
