Everyone talks about hypothetically going back in time to kill Hitler, but no one talks about hypothetically going back in time to kill Marx.

Kill Hegel, prevent both Hitler and Marx.

I feel like that line of thinking opens an unwieldy rabbit hole where we would continue to trace back the lineage of philosophical tradition much further than necessary.

Basically, Marx was to Stalin and Mao what Darwin was to Hitler and Mussolini.

Marx was describing the suffering brought on by early capitalism and developed a theory of historical determinism. He was not advocating war

Yet Darwin's theory very accurately describes the biological domain to which it is applicable, but Marx's theory is very inaccurate regarding the historical domain. Additionally, evolution as applied has no moral framework, while communism as applied is itself a moral framework.

All subsequent violence and war supposedly inspired by evolution was caused by the inapropriate construction a moral framework around the theory. Violence and war supposedly inspired by communism was caused by the moral framework that is itself communism.

Marx' idea of intrinsic crisis in capitalism was basically correct. He had no way of foreseeing the horrors of stalinism.

Marx did not think that communism would happen through gulags, but through efficiency gains and resulting unemployment and market collapse.

Communism is not a framework in which Bolsheviks kill kulaks, but the idea of a post labor economy with communally owned means of production

According to Marx, communism would happen after and in response to the inevitable failure of capitalism, not in competition to it

That's just another way to say he was wrong. It's also not entirely correct. Marx advocated for stripping the rights of the bourgeoisie class. Even if he thought that it would happen in a non-violent way, there is no reason to not resort to violence under that moral framework.

Would you say that it is morally ok if an aristocracy owns most of the resources and forces an impoverished majority to work for them?
