They are generally people with a functional intersubjective control model, but often not with terminology and ontology that would be acceptable to scientifically minded people that don't already know what the faithful are talking about.

Are you familiar with the Hall et al. papers that frame God as an amalgamation of Introjects? (i.e. a canvas upon which believers project their normative ideas and concepts of selfhood)
