Many people think “peer review” means “independent replication and confirmation of results” It usually means months of delay while a few folks in your field write an email-length criticism of the paper and ask for more work. It's a kind of code review where the main criterion tends to be that all currently fashionable dependencies are imported, the code itself implements a new function or a better version of an old one, and it has no flaws that are so obvious that you can see them without running it.
