Insightful. Media as information system vs media as control system. How would we construct a control system that doesnt depend on suppressing information systems? Or is that impossible?

While people have often an interest in misinforming others, they have a genuine interest in having accurate and relevant information themselves. Current control mostly relies on obscurizing alternatives. A better model might focus on negotiating consequences under full disclosure

This is interesting. But I don't see how it would be only one of those things. If social media are relatively open to whatever social interaction may be, then it includes of course both prescriptive and descriptive, & also types of discourse which mix both (such as myth)

People that fight against censorship want to preserve their right to form correct opinions where the authorities are wrong or follow bad incentives. The pro censorship people want to preserve or strengthen the role of media in guiding behavior based on political decisions.

... in both cases the result (optimization for being true or being authoritative) should be the same. if it isn't we may should start questioning our definitions of "true" and "authoritative".
