The "flattening the curve" rhetoric has resulted in a "lockdown light" that combines the worst of both worlds: we don't stop infections (they are almost constant) and we still ruin the economy, but for much longer. If we lift the lockdowns now, we will be worse off than before.

Not sending infected people home is not an option in the US. Countries that did that had national universal health systems. US needs to pay 1.6-2 million death toll and go back to life as before. There is no political will to do anything in the US.
