Sometimes I wonder how much of my belief that I can't understand reality directly just by looking at it has to do with being the youngest child and how much has to do with being a woman. I suppose I could just introspect directly and find out. ;)

Also-- I'm not sure in which category to place your response. a) Socrates "wise man knows himself to be a fool, fool thinks he is wise" in which case I agree or b) epistemological claim about sources of truth, in which case not sure I agree, as direct perception is def a thing?

And within b), yes direct perception definitely a source of truth, but also, direct perception???? Wtf??? Super complicated, many phenomenological layers, much fiction where we think there is none, many fine-grained perceptual distinctions to make, definitely extremely complex!

Very good point. Perhaps here I more mean my belief that others can understand better, somehow, than I can, and make decisions based upon it. I.e. what a youngest child learns bc of environment, what women are often taught.
