It's 2020 and it's still a major pita to build a native GUI in Python on the mac; I am not getting this day back

What are you trying to do? A form-based app or more interactive?

I think I will build the gui in unity and talk to the python via a websocket. Or am I already hating my life enough to rewrite everything in C#?

Did you try pygame? The docs are not that good but it's quite popular and in my experience reliable

Yes, I just jumped through the hurdles of making it run on my son's mac. Does not seem to do multiple windows though.

Ok that's something I haven't tried. If you want to stick to python and pygame let me know, I might give it a try myself later

Oh, and btw if your Mac runs one of these super modern OS versions that are younger than 3 years, the current stable version of pygame won't run any more. After installing the patch for using a virtual environment on the Mac, get the dev4. It must be dev4; dev6 does not do audio.
