OK, here's a question. My talents, such as they are, lie in the area of thinking and writing. From a humanitarian point of view, what are the most useful topics I could devote them to?

I fear that all philosophical discoveries that can be made by an unaugmented human intellect after a lifetime of reading and thinking are in the past. The relevant frontier lies in getting serious about Leibniz' project of mathematizing and automating the search for truth: AI.

Sorry Josha, but thats bull (or taking the "thinking" part too very literally) Theres plenty thats happening out there that you can read about (eg here, or in academic papers), and put your head to and come to -at the very least -your own conclusions to. World needs more of that!

philosophy and discovery are like driving and drinking. philosophers do not discover, they try to think things through. there can hardly be an end to that. if leipniz had a a a pocket calculator he would have been disappointed by the result of square root of 2.
