California's case load is increasing despite lockdown. Current cases are mostly seeded from New York. Can you imagine that there will be interstate travel restrictions/quarantines one day?https://twitter.com/toad_spotted/status/1254838116604665856 …

More on same theme: early CA cases are from a clade (grey in graphic) that hardly exists now. NY-origin clade has taken over in WA and are half of recent CA cases. pic.twitter.com/RAfFhQTb9K

There are constitutional issues with states restricting interstate travel, and easier ways towards the same goal. My big concern is state-level test and trace isn't compatible with travel - it should be nationally coordinated. (I'm hoping for at least interstate coordination.)

Perhaps this is a good time to assess the effects of different interpretations of constitutional law. Greater California seems to be already testing the waters a little bit.

I think it's likely, but like @balajis said, hopefully it doesn't turn into TSA like theater.https://twitter.com/balajis/status/1238175375525642241?s=20 …

        Ryan Finlay added,

There's a scenario where the quarantine bureaucracy hardens into an internal TSA, a system of checkpoints between states. It'd be one thing if this actually prevented disease, but it could turn out to be similar to airport security theater. Pat you down to check your fever.

yes, and I think people should embrace them, and leaders should present them the right way. The national goal should be to establish and hold virus-free areas, with intensive support for helping infected people isolate for 2 weeks until their bodies clear the virus. It is easier>

2to do this in counties with the fewest cases but every municipal mayor and community organization can begin right now doing contact tracing and offering people comfortable options for living alone for a few weeks, with full community support, so they don't infect their families.

Hawaii has already been imposing quarantines on all out-of-state arrivals for over a month (if memory serves, since March 20).
