Only individual deaths or could it apply to civilizations too? Seriously though, it sounds magical. Death is just an end, it doesn't 'happen'. When we say it died it means it stopped living.

Not suspended, no retrospective. It all dissolves. Even the meaning of "experience" dissolves. Terrifying process.

It depends on the order of dissociation whether it's terrifying.

“Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!”” HST

It really depends on how badly you want to live what sort of reaction you have to your own death. How much you love Life. And many people don’t know that about themselves until they actually come face-to-face with death. This is true for combat soldiers, and also seen in EMS.

An interesting phenomena I observed repeatedly (working EMS 6 years on the back of an ambulance) is how a near death experience can completely and instantly alter/reset the reference point for a person’s nervous system. The person is instantly changed in one moment.
